Some History
Originally formed in 1798, as the Lancashire Yeomanry Cavalry. Disbanded and reformed in 1848 as the Lancashire Hussars, and becoming the Lancashire Hussars Yeomanry in 1908, just in time for WWI. They also fought in the 2nd Boer War of 1899, under statute of the "Royal Warrant". At the onset of WWI the Lancashire Hussars formed two Line Regiments. The #1 regiment remained a cavalry regiment , and the #2 regiment eventually became the 10th Cyclist Brigade. In 1915, they added the 3rd Line regiment, and eventually joined the 2nd Reserve Cavalry Regiment in 1917. In early 1918, the 1st Regiment became an infantry regiment, and the 3rd Regiment joined the King's Liverpool Regiment of the 5th Reserve Battalion, where they finished the war.
After the war they were redesignated as the 2nd (Lancashire) Army Brigade, Royal Field Artillery. They entered WWII as the 423rd and 424th Batteries, based in Liverpool. They went to North Africa in August 1940, by which time 424 Battery had become No. 1 and No. 2 Batteries (Anti-tank) and 423 Battery had become No. 3 and No. 4 Batteries (Anti-aircraft), known as 1/106 Battery, 1/102, Battery. They were in North Africa until 8 September 1943, in Palestine until 16 October 1943, in Syria until 9 November 1943, in Egypt until 2 December 1943, at sea until 9 December 1943, in Italy until 10 December 1944 and then Greece. Postwar, in 1969, the regiment was changed to a training unit, which was subsequently disbanded in 1973.
