Above are the scans of a silver officer grade collar badge for the Canadian 16th CEF Battalion (Canadian Scottish) of WW1 vintage, a nicely hallmarked "Scully- Montreal" badge in what appears to be a silvered metal composition. This badge has an excellent high relief quality design, indicating an officer grade badge. In excellent condition with both original horizontally positioned lugs intact. (view scans)


The 16th (Canadian Scottish) BattalionCEF was organized at Val Cartier, outside of Montreal, on 2 September 1914 in response to the WWI necessities, and was composed of recruits from the Argyle & Sutherland Regiment and the 79th Queen's Own Cameron Highlanders. The 16th Battalion served in the 3rd Brigade of the 1st Canadian Division. Since its early beginnings, the battalion had a high standard of conduct on the battlefield and was commanded by outstanding leaders. One such was Lieutenant-General Sir Arthur Currie KCMG, who rose to command the Canadian Corps (the first real Canadian Army) during World War One. Four members of the 16th Battalion were awarded the Victoria cross for valor. Piper James Cleland RichardsonPrivate William Johnstone MilneLance-Corporal William Henry Metcalf and Lieutenant-Colonel Cyrus Wesley Peck. Lieutenant-Colonel Cyrus Peck commanded the battalion for many months in the trenches. Piper James Richardson was just 18 years old when he enlisted, and was killed during the Battle of the Somme shortly after having played his company through No Man's Land. He disappeared in shellfire after going back to retrieve the bagpipes that he had laid aside, on order to bring back a wounded comrade...
