You are viewing a large Busby or Shako badge for the 61st (South Gloucestershire) Regiment of Foot 1782?1881. This large badge measures almost 4 inches in height, and is made of heavy brass, topped with a Victoria era crown. Its lug type fasteners are of the welded stem variety and are original and in good order. The back shows some degree of polishing residue, which indicates a field used badge.

Some History:
The Regiment was raised as 2nd Battalion, 3rd Regiment of Foot 1756, and was later reconstituted as 61st Regiment of Foot in 1758. This badge above has a 19th century Victoria crown. Under the Childers Reforms it amalgamated with the 28th Regiment of Foot to form the Gloucestershire Regiment in 1881. The Gloucestershire Regiment, commonly referred to as the Glosters, was a line infantry regiment of the British Army from 1881 until 1994.
