You are viewing a large brass shako, or bonnet badge, almost 5 inches long. This magnificent badge has a post Civil War, 1867, date. and research shows that this regiment had also served as far back as the War of 1812.  It came to be known as the "Dandy Fifth". A view of the backing shows clearly the structure and the early style wire attachments common to that period of history. In excellent condition, an a real find for the discerning collector of early US historical items.
