You are viewing an second of two examples of this rare WWI copper version of the cap badge for the 5th Infantry battalion also known as "Tuxford's Dandy's". More officially they were also known as the 5th CEF Battalion (Western Cavalry). The badge itself is very near perfect. Having come form a collection the lugs pinched for display, but still original and intact with welded lug stems. This old relic is in excellent shape.

The 5th Battalion was authorized on 10 August 1914 and embarked for Great Britain on 29 September 1914. It entered the theater of operations in France on 14 February 1915, where it fought as part of the 2nd Infantry Brigade, 1st Canadian Division in France and Flanders until the end of the war. The battalion was disbanded on 15 September 1920. The original members were recruited in Brandon, Manitoba; Saskatoon, Regina and Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Red Deer, Alberta and Merritt and Vernon, British Columbia. The battalion was mobilized at Camp Valcartier, Quebec.
