You are viewing the scans above which are of a WWI era Soldiers service pin. It appears to be made of silver with a small amount of red enameling in the crown. Quite a beautiful badge in its design. On the obverse is the original owner's service number as well as the usual penalty warning about wearing this badge under false circumstances. These were given to returning soldiers who had served on the front so that they would be protected from abuse and even violence from the citizens since they were of military age and not serving.

An interesting memorial of a now bygone time in our social attitudes.
