You are viewing the scans of a WWI era cap badge for the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Mounted Brigade (Nott's & Derby). The badge is bimetal made using the stamping method, and comes with its original "tang" style attachment in good order.
This brigade was formed in 1908 as part of the Territorial Force. It consisted of three yeomanry regiments, a horse artillery battery and ammunition column, a transport and supply column and a field ambulance. In May 1915, the brigade was re-designated the 3rd (Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire) Mounted Brigade, and took part in the Churchill's folly, the Gallipoli Campaign. The Brigade went on to Europe later in the war at which time the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Mounted Brigade was redesignated as 7th Mounted Brigade. On 22 July 1918, the 2nd Mounted Division was re-numbered as the 5th Cavalry Division and the brigade was re-named the 14th Cavalry Brigade. The subordinate units (Signal Troop, Combined Cavalry Field Ambulance and Mobile Veterinary Section) were renumbered on the same date. The brigade remained with 5th Cavalry Division for the rest of the war, taking part in the Affair of Abu Tellul, Battle of Megiddo. It was disbanded in 1919.
