This battalion, called the "York Rangers" was raised in Toronto Ontario during the summer of 1916. They sailed in April of 1917 for England. Upon their arrival the 220th Battalion became part of the 3rd Reserve Battalion. It was a rather small battalion as WWI CEF battalions go. It was composed of 464 members.
