History:
The PPCLI was raised on the initiative of Captain A. H. Gault in 1914, to participate in the Canadian war effort for the First World War. It was the first Canadian infantry unit to arrive on the battlefield; arriving in France on December 21, 1914, and consequently was too early to be a numbered battalion. The Patricias took their place in the trenches on 6 January 1915, at "Dickiebush". On May 8, the horrific conflict for the defense of Bellewaerde Ridge during the Battle of Frezenberg established the glorious reputation of the Patricias but at tremendous cost. When they came out of the line 3 days later, they had lost 500 men. They went on to continue to fight in France and Begium throughout the war. The badge you are viewing is from the post 1953 era and is what we consider "Modern"
