You are viewing a vintage CEF WWI era 187th Battalion Sweetheart Badge. This badge is made of fine highly detailed browning brass with the number 187th overlaid in silver. The badge has a jeweler type straight pin attachment, typical of the period. "Sweethearts" were often given as a remembrance to girlfriends and wives by soldiers who went overseas in WWI. A very rare badge from the CEF era of the 20th century...
This battalion was raised in Central Alberta, with headquarters in Red Deer. The unit began recruiting during the summer of 1916 and sailed for England on December 20th,1916. This battalion, composed of 768 members, became part of the 21st Reserve Battalion already stationed in England...
