The Prince Edward Island Light Horse was first organized in 1901. In World War I it helped to form part of the 6th Canadian Mounted Rifles, Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF). The Light Horse supplied mounted escorts for various Governor-Generals and other distinguished visitors and for the Lieut. Governor of the Province on ceremonial occasions including the annual opening of the legislature. In WW2 the regiment was mobilized in February of 1941. It was renamed "1st Canadian Armored Brigade Headquarters Squadron". In november of 1943, after their arrival in England our Island boys were again redesignated the "2nd Corps Defense Company". On July 6th 1944, the regiment landed in Normandy as a part of the 2nd Canadian Corps and served in North West Europe until the end of the war.
