The corps was established the in 1903, making it the first independent Signal Corps in the British Empire. The Canadian Signal Corps was re-designated the Canadian Corps of Signals on 1 Aug 1921. The unit became the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals in 1922, subsequent to the honor conferred on the Canadian army by King George V.
